Crystal Healing: An Alternative Therapy

What exactly is crystal healing and how does it work?

Crystal healing is just as it sounds, a form of healing using crystals. It is classed as an alternative or complimentary therapy.

There are several different kinds of crystal healing, from using a single crystal to using several, depending on the user, the patient and the ailments.

When using one crystal, the practitioner will hold it over a person for a specific length of time and in many cases, will give the crystal to the person being healed to use on themselves after the session is over.

Kessho Reiki is a form of Reiki using crystals to amplify the energy and works in the same way as general crystal healing – by placing specific crystals along each of the major chakras in the body (Kessho then adds Reiki energy to aid the healing). Crystals all resonate at a particular frequency and this is drawn in by the body (by the chakras most often) and spreads to all areas of the body, much like ultrasound waves.

The crystals are placed:

  • Next to the head, or against the crown (top) of the head
  • On the forehead, where the third eye is located
  • On the throat, in the dip at the base
  • On the chest, as close to the heart as is comfortable
  • On the stomach
  • On the naval
  • Near the groin (most often on the upper leg, respecting the person’s dignity).

These seven locations relate to the seven major chakra points and there will be specific crystals associated with each chakra that most benefit the energy of that point.

Why place along the chakras? Because they will amplify the healing abilities and make a connection with the energy within each crystal, connect with the body and boost the body’s ability to heal itself.

Crystals that are best suited to a specific chakra are:

  1. The Crown Chakra – Celestite, Apophyllite and Clear Quartz work best
  2. The Third Eye Chakra – Amethyst or Garnet
  3. The Throat Chakra – Turquoise, Amethyst, Blue Topaz, Blue Tourmaline
  4. The Heart Chakra – Rose Quartz, Kunzite, Malachite
  5. The Solar Plexus (stomach) Chakra – Citrine or Jasper
  6. The Sacral (Naval) Chakra – Carnelian (orange) or Tiger’s Eye
  7. The Root or Base Chakra – Haematite, Obsidian, Smokey Quartz, Garnet

Of course, for specific issues, certain crystals will be substituted. Amber, for instance, is an excellent all rounder. It can be a substituted for any of the above chakras (as can Clear Quartz), as well as being used as a general purification crystal or for cleansing and auric healing. While Amber is not a crystal in the most basic sense of the word it has the advantage of coming from an earthy substance (tree resin) and having time influence it. Simply by taking this crystal into your hands, you will feel the warmth spreading out from it.

Labradorite is another crystal that can aid in purification (by purification here we mean purifying the body of any disease and/or negative energy). It can also be used in healing auric holes (as can Clear Quartz). Auric holes are areas in the body whereby disease/illness and physical injury can enter the body.

Smokey Quartz is another great all rounder. It very gently cleanses and earths energy.

While many crystals have specific purposes for specific parts of the body, many crystal healers will have a group of crystals for the chakras for boosting all-round healing. They may choose to add another crystal that will be of further benefit. Crystal healing is a non-intrusive way of boosting the body’s ability to heal itself.

excellent info, well presented and good photos too :)

Interesting article. Never underestimate the ability of the human body to repair itself. All too often we jump to the conclusion that we can only get better by introducing chemicals and pharmaceuticals into our bodies. I much prefer a more natural way of dealing with things. I look forward to reading more.

Totally agree, Richard. Thanks guys :D

Your help here has no side effects like all medicines do. Extremely well presented with a lot of healthful info. Voted up.
